About this fashion designer
Beyond 7 is the retail presence for Showroom Seven International, whose stylish West Chelsea headquarters are located in the Terminal Warehouse building, a late-nineteenth-century structure of unfinished wood floors, exposed brick, and high beams that formerly housed the popular eighties dance club, the Tunnel.
The store is on the first floor, and it acts as a showcase for the company’s designer clients, stocking merchandise like limited edition Elise Øverland and Benjamin Cho dresses, and oversize bangles by owner Karen Erickson (of jewelry line Erickson Beamon). Erickson’s huge, jeweled necklaces are pinned up over a Dada print in the back of the store, featuring long chains of pearls and necklaces decked with enormous butterflies. The shop also carries simple Bloch ballet flats to pair with the stash of designer dresses, separates, and jackets. The upscale clothes hang from the ceiling on translucent bars, drawing employees from the nearby art galleries and the high-fashion set. The assortment is chosen by Erickson’s daughter and head buyer, Monique, and each item is carried in limited runs of ten or less—thus ensuring that local gallery-hoppers won’t be wearing the same silk Tony Cohen dress at the next big art opening.
